Description
22" (56 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead with darkened complexion depicting rugged shepherd gazing upward, well-detailed musculature of throat and shoulders, sculpted tousled black curled hair, enamel eyes, mouth modeled open with teeth and tongue, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden arms and legs, with leather vest and one leather sandal. Excellent condition with fine original finish, costume missing. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, attributed to Francesco Celebrano, the celebrated sculptor of the era, exceptional detail of sculpting and artistic painting of facial features.
