Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, elongated face with very full lower cheeks and chin, cobalt blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, ears pierced into head, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, all-wooden fully-articulated poupee body with shapely torso, dowel-articulation at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: two hairlines into forehead from crown rim. Marks: Poupee Deposes SGDG. Comments: Pierre Victor Clement, a leather shoe-maker, deposed a model for a poupee body made of mold-pressed/blown leather in 1867; he drew upon his knowledge of shoe-making in the design, and was inspired by the gutta percha body designed by Adelaide Huret which he claimed was less durable than his. Value Points: an especially beautiful face with distinctive portrait like features, very fine complexion and painted features, rare and distinctive original body, and wearing fine early mauve silk ensemble with black lace and velvet trim, undergarments, leather boots.
