Description
20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head portraying an adult man with highly-defined characterization around the eyes and cheek planes, brown glass sleep eyes, real lashes, painted lower lashes, slightly-modeled brushstroked brows, aquiline-shaped nose with accented nostrils, closed mouth with firmly set lips, center accent line on lips, defined philtrum and creases at lip corners, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: professional restoration to back of head. Marks: 1303 S&H 8 1/2. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1890, from their 1300 art character series. The model was adapted for several variations because of its highly-characterized adult expression, including as native American or with black or mulatto complexions. Value Points: outstanding sculpture on this example portraying a gentleman in his plaid golfing ensemble and carrying golf bag and clubs.
