Description
18" (46 cm.) x 16". The large wrap or carriage blanket features cream cashmere center panel framed by woven paisley borders and fringe. With embroidered symbol and signature of original weaver in one corner. There is some spotting on cream and few tiny moth holes, otherwise excellent. For the French poupee market, circa 1860, the Kashmir paisley shawl was an important symbol of luxury for French royal courts beginning with Napoleon's gift of a paisley shawl to his wife Empress Josephine, and later one of the French fashion industry's pillars during the reign of Empress Eugenie.
