Description
22" (56 cm.) Poured wax shoulderhead of lady with elegantly upheld face and modeled bosom, oval-shaped face and elongated throat, small blue enamel inset eyes, deeply-defined eye sockets, accented nostrils, closed mouth, light brown mohair tendrils inserted into scalp and forming elegant upsweep coiffure, muslin stitch-jointed body, poured wax lower limbs, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent except wax loss at left shoulderplate (under costume). Comments: English, circa 1875, attributed to Lucy Peck. Value Points: the regal pose and superb painting and coiffure of the doll indicate its probable creation as portrait of unknown lady; the doll is wearing original lingerie including boned corset.
