14" (36 cm.) Solid-domed paper mache swivel head on shoulderplate with gofun finish, painted light grey hair under original black bobbed human hair wig, sculpted large ears, almond-shaped enamel inset eyes, feathered brows, tiny closed mouth with accented lips, muslin body with paper-wrapped upper torso, crier, paper mache lower torso and lower arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (maker's stamp on torso). Comments: Japanese, late 19th century play doll known as Ichimatsu. Value Points: wonderful characterized face with great expression, original signed body, original multi-layered costume.
