Description
26" (66 cm.) Wax-over-paper mache shoulderhead of lady with very slender face and elongated strong throat with defined throat hollow, blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, blonde mohair wig in original elaborate coiffure, sculpted chemise over modeled bosom, muslin stitch-jointed body, kid lower hands. Condition: very good, some water-spotting on torso, hands likely replaced. Comments: Germany, probably Dressel from their series of high society women ("Staatsdamen"), circa 1875. Value Points: elegant large example of the fashionable lady in lovely gown with lambswool stole, muff and cap, and superb early leather hand-cobbled leather boots with wooden soles and heels. Ex-Collection Estelle Johnston.
