16" (41 cm.) Solid-domed paper mache swivel head on shoulder plate with traditional gofun finish, painted shaded hair in delicate tendrils, prominently-sculpted ears, enamel inset eyes in half-moon shape, feathered brows, closed mouth with accented lips, muslin body with paper-wrapped torso, paper mache lower arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (maker's stamp on torso). Comments: Japanese, early 20th century play doll known as Ichimatsu. Value Points: pristine condition, with expressive features, beautiful complexion and very fine multi-layered original costume.
