17" (43 cm.) Solid-domed paper mache swivel head on shoulder plate with gofun finish, elongated slender face, bald pate with inset hair at each side of face, sculpted large ears, half-moon-shaped enamel inset eyes, feathered brows, tiny closed mouth with accented lips, muslin body with paper-wrapped torso, crier, paper mache lower arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (maker's stamp on torso). Comments: Japanese, late 19th century play doll known as Ichimatsu. Value Points: wonderful characterized face with great expression, original signed body, original multi-layered costume, unusual hair style.
