Description
25" (64 cm.) Firmly-stuffed rose/ecru fine muslin, swivel head, stitch-jointed shoulders and hips, pressed mask face, large round blue painted side-glancing eyes, long painted upper lashes and thin line high brows, tiny button shaped nose, tiny bow-shaped closed mouth, auburn mohair wig with original curls and bow. Condition: generally excellent, especially well preserved body and coiffure, original painted facial features. Marks: Madame Alexander New York, U.S.A. (small tag on dress). Comments: Alexander, 1930s, presented as "Tippie Toe", said to be inspired by the 19th century poem "Pittypat and Tippytoe" by Eugene Field; many of Madame Alexander's dolls were inspired by poems and stories from American childhood. Value Points: in beautifully-preserved condition, so unusual for her early cloth dolls, the doll is wearing original muslin slip and panties, and original tagged ivory taffeta baby dress. The actual doll is photographed in Collector's Encyclopedia of Dolls, Vol. I, page 10 by Coleman. Private collection Kathryn DeFillipo.
