Description
4.3" (11 cm.) All-bisque Kewpie in classic standing pose with one-piece head, torso and legs, loop-jointed arms, and with sculpted over-sized blue policeman's cap with black brim and medallion, painted side-glancing eyes, blue wigs. Excellent condition. Marked O'Neill on feet and with red paper label on chest. Germany, c. 1915, from O'Neill designs, from the series of occupational figures identified by sculpted hats; see also #134 fireman in this catalog. This example is especially notable for fine blush highlights.
