Description
5.5" (14 cm.) All-bisque Kewpie with one-piece head, torso and legs, loop-jointed arms, modeled forelock and topknot, side-glancing eyes, blue wings. With original red heart Kewpie label on front torso, unusual paper label "Design Patented" label on back torso, O'Neill incised mark on feet. Kewpie is wearing store original pink organdy crepe and lace dress and matching bonnet, flannel petticoat, and is preserved in original paper lace edged box with lid illustration. Tucked inside the box is ink-lettered note "Happy Christmas to Mrs. Duffey" on the calling card of Miss Anna J. Egan. Near mint condition. Germany, c. 1912, designed by Rose O'Neill. The box is labeled "Kewpie Doll Trademark U.S. Design Patent No., 43680 Foreign Patents Applied For".
