Description
4.5" (11 cm.) l. 5"h. A stylized white bisque hobby horse is posed in galloping manner upon a bisque base to simulate ground, and posed on the horse is all-bisque Kewpie with sculpted red Civil War hat with black brim, side-glancing eyes, blue wings, with black belt and silver-handled sabre. Excellent condition. Germany, c. 1915, designed by Rose O'Neil, with original red paper label on chest and Rose O'Neill copyright label on back. The extremely rare piece, of which no other is known to exist, has charming details of modeling such as right hand resting casually on his leg, with left hand held at the back; the body pose of Kewpie varies from other models as well as the entire vignette.
