Description
8" (20 cm.) overall h. 9" diam. base. Arranged on a weighted base designed as the stones steps of an outdoor garden, are six all-bisque Kewpies and Kewpie Blunderboos, posed in animated playfulness, including 3" seated Blunderboo with head inclined to the side, arms uplifted, foot kicking and a very merry smile on his chubby face, with red paper label; 3.5" seated Kewpie-like child with wide-open side-glancing eyes, hands held to head, painted black cap and shoes; 2" tiny Kewpie with extended arms; 3" Blunderboo balanced on one knee and clasping flowers in his outstretched hands; 4" seated Kewpie with head tilted and arms waving in air; and rare 2" Kewpie seated on attached bisque swinging bench under trellis. Excellent condition. Germany, c. 1915, the vignette was designed around the center swinging Kewpie under trellis; this rare trellis Kewpie was created by the O'Neill family during the time at their Westport, Connecticut villa known as Carabas and was acquired by its original owner directly from that family.
