Kewpie with Mandolin and Doodle Dog on a Log

3.5" (9 cm.) Seated on one side of a bisque vase designed as a tree log is Kewpie with topknot, forelock, blue wings and holding a mandolin in his arms, while on the other side, gazing wistfully at Kewpie, is brown-spotted Doodle Dog posed in classic seated manner, and with side-glancing eyes and blue wings. Excellent condition. Marked c. in circle. Germany, c. 1915, designed by Rose O'Neill, a rare model lending charm to the utilitarian vase.
