Description
5" (13 cm.) All-bisque with one-piece head and torso, loop-jointed bisque arms and legs, very slender elongated torso and high crown head with small forelock and tiny topknot, shorter arms. The doll is well-preserved but is of poor modeling quality and painting. With original red paper label on torso and "design patented" label on back torso. Germany, c. 1913, from an early production run of the Kewpie designed by Rose O'Neill; the doll was so poorly executed such as skinny torso, tiny forelock and topknot, that she ordered production end and pieces to be destroyed. Only a few examples remain, of which this is an important example of her oversight.
