17" (43 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with solid dome, black painted pate with original cut slit at center crown, painted outlined blue eyes, arched brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with gentle expression, wooden body with defined waist, peg-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted black shoes, wearing original cotton transfer print dress, undergarments, matching velvet hooded cape, and cap. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1859, presented as peddler lady. Value Points: fine early costume, and carrying a well-laden tray whose wares include tiny peg-wooden doll, black Frozen Charlotte, carved wooden animals, books, yarn winder, tin soldier, and much more. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, page 20.
