Description
24" (61 cm.) Bisque socket head, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lushly-painted lashes, rose blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked brows, accented eye corners, accented nostrils, slightly-parted lips with two rows of tiny porcelain teeth, outlined lips, dimpled chin, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over Steiner pate, French composition body with mechanism in torso which operates from key wind at side, jointing at shoulders and elbows, metal hinged hips, jointed knees; when wound, the doll walks. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: J. Steiner Bte SGDG Paris Fre A 15. Comments: Jules Steiner, his Bebe Premier Pas, deposed in 1890. Value Points: rarely found model with original body, mechanism, wig, pate, very fine painting of complexion and blush, and wearing antique costume of black velvet with white shirt having finely embroidered collar and cuffs, undergarments, stockings, black leather shoes by Alart with full figure design of doll. The doll is shown in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 136.
