Description
13" (33 cm.) Each has solid domed bisque shoulderhead with black painted pate, oval face and slender elongated throat, painted blue eyes, black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, each with brunette human hair wig designed to form a widow's peak at forehead and curve around the face, one forming into elaborate looped braids at the back and the other with coiled braided chignon, each with kid body with stitch-jointing, bisque lower limbs, painted flat black ankle boots with lacing. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1870. Value Points: impeccable original condition, the dolls have exceptional coiffure and are wearing original costumes and undergarments. The pair of dolls were acquired for the Museum directly from the original sister owners, and are shown in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, pages 30/31.

Stuart's Take
Not only beautiful dolls, with a wonderful provenance coming from two sisters, but that hair! One of my picks as the best and most perfectly coiffed hair in all of the collection.
