Description
18" (46 cm.) Hand-sculpted composition socket head, painted brown eyes in deep eye sockets, modeled eyelids, lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth, accented lips, defined chin and cheek bones, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume, undergarments, shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Marian Kaulitz introduced her new concept "art character reform" dolls in 1908 to counteract the dolls then being marketed which she considered too pretty and unrealistic; her concept is believed to be the inspiration for the character doll movement that swept the industry for the ensuing decade. Value Points: an especially appealing character model with beautiful original complexion and painting, wonderful characterization, original body and body finish. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 169.
