20" (51 cm.) Pink-tinted porcelain shoulderhead, rounded facial shape, sculpted short black hair with well-defined tousled curls and feathering around the forehead, sculpted blushed ears, painted blue eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, with shaded lips and defined tongue tip, firmly-stuffed leather stitch-jointed body, porcelain arms to above elbows. Condition: generally excellent, thumb missing on left hand. Comments: Germany, circa 1850, according to history of the doll it first belonged to Alice Crawshaw of Whitby, England, a gift from her schoolmaster father who had studied in Heidelberg, Germany. Value Points: rarity factors include open mouth and unusual coiffure, original body. The doll is wearing lovely early cotton print gown, undergarments, and wonderful leather cobbled shoes, and is presented with her original trunk having original early English paper label of trunk maker, with extensive trousseau, comprising four additional dresses, coat, bonnet, undergarments, and a very fine early pieced quilt.
