Description
13" (33 cm.) Each is all-wooden, socket head with plump facial modeling and custom-painted amber complexion, painted dark eyes with black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, baby body with jointing at shoulders and hips. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: H. Schoenhut c. 1913 (paper label) Schoenhut Doll (incised body label). Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1918. Value Points: extremely rare, of which no other examples are known, the dolls are wearing richly accented Chinese silk costumes including caps and slippers. The dolls are featured in the book, Schoenhut Dolls, A Collector's Encyclopedia, by Carol Corson, page 195/196, described as having "gentle dignity"; and shown in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 244.
