Description
24" (61 cm.) Each has bisque socket head, blue glass eyes, mohair upper lashes, painted lower lashes, accented nostrils, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, woman on lady-shaped composition and wooden fully-jointed body, man on classic composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1159 Germany S&H 10 (heads) Bebe Jumeau Diplome d'honneur (bodies). Comments: Jumeau/SFBJ with original heads commissioned from Simon and Halbig, circa 1900. Value Points: the handsome pair are each wearing original costumes, the gentleman in plaid woolen three-piece suit with shirt, tie, fleur-de-lis tie pin, watch and fob, and hat; the woman in silk and velvet ensemble with matching lavish hat, and each with original fitted kid gloves. The dolls are featured on the cover of the book, Simon and Halbig Dolls, by Jan Foulke, and are featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 164.
