Description
21" (53 cm.) Bisque socket head with plump cheeks and chin, painted blue upper-glancing eyes, white eye dots, red and black upper eyeliner, lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, painted teeth between the outlined lips, blonde mohair wig over plaster pate, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique woolen dress with crochet trim, undergarments, shoes and socks. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Germany (body). Comments: Kestner, circa 1910, the model, although unmarked, is from the Kestner 180 series of painted eye characters. Value Points: rare doll whose painted eyes are enhanced by intaglio sculpting (unusual on this series) and enhancing decorative glaze.
