Description
9" (23 cm.) Bisque socket head, painted blue eyes in narrow squinting expression, brown and red eyeliner, wrinkled curved brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth modeled as though open and crying, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 84/16. Comments: Hertwig, circa 1910, likely a prototype that was never put in production; the model was presented in a 2001 Theriault's auction of the Hertwig archives that had been preserved by the Hertwig family until that date; no other examples are known to exist. Value Points: the rare model has exceptional detail of modeling, especially for this small doll, with very fine detail of painting, fine antique costume.
