Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head with nearly-solid dome, unusual small pate cut at back crown, painted blue eyes with white eye dots, red and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with painted row of teeth, outlined smiling lips, impressed cheek, chin and philtrum dimples, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, nicely costumed. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 125 - 7. Comments: Germany, circa 1912, the doll was created during the art reform movement of the 1910 era, possibly presented by Wislizenus who presented a series of painted eye characters in a 100 series at this time, and whose contributions to doll history remain largely unexplored. Value Points: rare doll whose mystery adds charm to her highly characterized appealing features and fine quality of bisque and painting.
