Description
17" (43 cm.) Very firm sculpted head with flat-cut neck socket, brown sculpted hair with deeply sculpted forelock curls, brown painted eyes, black and brown upper eyeliner, brown eyeshadow, white eye dots, accented nostrils, closed mouth, plump cheeks, well-sculpted ears, stretched twill over paper mache body, jointing at shoulders and hips, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Gunther Heine, circa 1921, of Bad Kosen (same village as Kathe Kruse factory), who advertised art dolls "as beautiful and vital as a natural child". Value Points: especially expressive modeling around the eyes and ears, fine gleaming patina of complexion. The doll is featured in two pages 174/175 of the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick.
