Description
8" (20 cm.) Bisque socket head, painted large blue intaglio eyes, black and brown upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth in very wide beaming smile, center accent line, impressed dimples at philtrum and lip corners, brunette mohair bobbed wig, paper mache body jointed at shoulders and hips. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 84/74. Comments: Hertwig, circa 1910, likely a prototype that was never put in production; the model was presented in a 2001 Theriault's auction of the Hertwig archives that had been preserved by the Hertwig family until that date; no other examples are known to exist. Value Points: delectable expression with fine detail of modeling and painting, presented on appropriate body with well-detailed folklore costume.
