36" (91 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead, black sculpted hair arranged with topknot in so-called "Apollo knot" style at crown, and arranged clusters of curls at each side of face, black enamel eyes, lightly-defined lashes and brows, open nostrils, closed mouth, blushed cheeks, slender kid lady body, wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue shoes, antique dress and undergarment. Condition: generally excellent, small repair at back shoulderplate. Comments: Germany, circa 1840, grand size and luxury coiffure suggest production as an Exhibition model. Value Points: unusual detail of Apollo knot design with variations of hair arrangement in each knot. Ex-collection Yesteryears Doll Museum of Massachusetts.
