Description

23" (58 cm.) Richly-pink tinted porcelain shoulderhead with plump facial modeling, solid dome with sew holes for wig at crown, painted blue upper-glancing eyes, black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, richly-shaded smiling lips of closed mouth, blushed cheeks, brunette human hair wig, muslin stitch-jointed body, original plump pink-tinted porcelain arms and legs to above elbows and knees, bare feet, slightly-curled fingers, wearing antique Welsh costume and hat. Condition: generally excellent, little chip on right big toe, right baby finger, piece reglued at upper rim of left leg. Comments: attributed to Lippert & Haas of Schlaggenwald, Czech, circa 1850. Value Points: rare model with most expressive features, very rare to find original matching porcelain arms and legs, original costume. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, pages 38/39 with the note "she is said to have belonged to Princess Victoria, Princess Royal, eldest daughter of Queen Victoria. With the doll is a photo of a letter stating 'The Dowr. Lady Lyttelton encloses to Mrs (?) Irwins a post office order for the amount of the price of the doll received for Princess Royal; which has arrived safe, and is much approved - Windsor Castle, Decr. 21st, 1850'."
