18" (46 cm.) Poured wax shoulderhead, blue glass inset eyes, lightly tinted brows, eyeliner, nostrils and mouth with downcast lips, delicately inserted soft mohair wig, softly stuffed muslin body, poured wax lower limbs, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent, light fading of facial features. Comments: attributed to Montanari, circa 1850. Value Points: the doll was described in the catalog of the legendary Bodmer Collection as being a portrait of Princess Alice, 3rd child of Queen Victoria; and that the doll is wearing her original costume which was a miniature version of a dress worn by Princess Alice at age 5. The costume comprises aqua brocade dress with fringe, lace, and ribbon trim, undergarments, socks, kidskin slippers, and woven wide-brimmed bonnet. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 55.
