Bisque socket head, intaglio-sculpted painted blue downcast eyes with pronounced large black pupils, white eye dots, black and red upper eyeliner, short feathered brows with sculpted detail, well-defined nose with rounded tip, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with downcast petulant expression, outlined lips with enhancing decorative glaze, impressed dimples at lip edges, brunette mohair bobbed wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume comprising embroidered short trousers and red vest, white shirt, burgundy woolen stockings, leather shoes. Marks: B (in large incised script) A 9 M. Comments: Marseille, circa 1910, from their art reform series of intaglio painted-eye characters. Value Points: very few examples of the expressive-faced lad are known to exist, this doll enhanced by exemplary quality of complexion and painting, original body and body finish.
