Description
15" (38 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulderhead with painted brown bonnet with streamer ties, slender face, elongated throat, dark enamel eyes, slightly-defined bosom, original cloth body with stitch-jointing, paper mache arms to above the elbows, original cotton gown, undergarments, leather slippers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, attributed to Lowenthal of Hamburg, who advertised his paper mache dolls in Vierlander costumes, as is this cap. Value Points: very rare doll with painted bonnet, enamel eyes, original body. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, pp. 24/25.
