18" (46 cm.) l. 13" head circ. Brown-complexioned bisque head with flanged neck, lightly-sculpted painted black baby hair, brown glass eyes, shaded black brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with extended center line, pink muslin frog-shaped baby body, brown celluloid hands. Condition: bisque excellent, some spotting on legs. Marks: c. 1923 by Grace S. Putnam Made in Germany 1373/45 (head) Patent 1800359 Sept. 21st 1926 (stamp on torso). Comments: Grace S. Putnam, circa 1923, with 1926 patented Bye-lo body, appears original albeit slightly larger. Value Points: very rare brown-complexioned baby with flawless golden-brown hues that gain depth from luminous patina, unusual detail of hair sculpting, with elaborate multi-layered antique baby costume. Ex-collection Winnie Langley.
