Description
13" (33 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead, sculpted short black hair in arranged finger curls, black enamel eyes, closed mouth, on taufling style body with bellows-enclosed muslin midriff, paper mache lower torso and lower arms and legs, painted grey/black flat boots. Condition: very good, original finish with light fading, nose rub. Comments: Germany, circa 1870. Value Points: most endearing doll with rare taufling body, working bellows "mama" crier, is presented in early leather-covered wooden trunk with paper lining and original early English trunk maker label of William Robertson, along with extensive wardrobe comprising woolen suit with soutache trimmed jacket, five additional gowns (three with attached aprons), and other costume elements.
