Description
11" (28 cm.) l. 10" circ. head. Solid domed bisque head with flanged neck, tinted baby hair and brows, dark brown eyes designed to allow the doll's eyes to sleep, open, or glance sideways, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, slightly-parted lips, two modeled upper porcelain teeth, muslin frog-shaped baby body, celluloid hands. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Copr. by Grace S Putnam 1373/20. Comments: Bye-lo, an original design by Grace Storey Putnam, Germany, circa 1923, the doll is presented in original organdy baby gown, undergarments, resting on bunting cushion with cutwork ruffle. Value Points: very rare model with open mouth and unusual eye mechanism of which few other models are known to exist. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 206. $2000/3000
