Description
25" (64 cm.) Art-plaster sculpted head with sculpted short dark brown marceled hair, painted facial features, brown painted eyes glancing to the side, closed mouth with haughty expression, padded armature body, posable arms, posed on original wooden stand labeled with her name and 1920. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Elsie Janis, purchased by J.H. Hoffheimer, 1937 Traphagen School (original cloth label on costume). Comments: designed by Lilli Baitz, portraying Elsie Janis (1889-1956) described as "the sweetheart of the American Expeditionary Force" of WWI, the stage and Hollywood silent film actress also was screenwriter and composer. Value Points: wearing mauve velveteen ensemble with soutache trim, matching hat with fur accent and collar, large fur muff, felt gaiters, leather shoes and painted gloves. With original labeled leather travel case.
