Description
26" (66 cm.) Carved wooden shoulderhead with oval face and strong throat, sculpted brown painted hair drawn around the sides of head with comb-marked detail and captured in tight chignon at the nape, blue enamel inset eyes, delicately painted all-around lashes, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, defined chin, muslin stitch-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: European, country of origin uncertain, mid-1800s, the carved hair stylistic of classic Queen Victoria coiffure. Value Points: unusual and compelling presence, with fine original finish, wearing fine early bronze green silk gown with turquoise velvet trim, crochet shawl with interwoven ribbons, undergarments and leather slippers.
