Description
25" (64 cm.) Art-plaster sculpted head turned sharply to the right, sculpted brown hair with braided coronet, cluster of curls at nape held by sculpted flowers, curled bangs, modeled earrings, painted facial features, brown painted eyes, closed mouth with serene expression, padded armature body, posable arms, posed on original wooden stand labeled with her name and 1875. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Fanny Davenport, purchased by J.H. Hoffheimer, 1937 Traphagen School (original cloth label on costume). Comments: designed by Lilli Baitz, portraying the stage actress Fanny Davenport (1859-1898) who came to American from England as a young child, and in 1877 forming her own touring company, starring herself. Value Points: wearing two-piece ensemble of matte finish silk in celadon green and rich purple trimmed with silk soutache and purple silk bows, tulle ruffles collar and cuffs, holding silk handkerchief. With original labeled leather travel case.
