14 1/2" (37 cm.) All-cloth doll with egg-shaped head, flat-dimensional facial features, oil-painted facial features and hair, painted blue eyes, single-stroke brows, rounded outlined nose, closed mouth with well-shaped lips, brown swirling painted curls, stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, oil-painted lower arms and legs, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent, few very minor paint rubs. Marks: Columbian Doll Emma E. Adams Oswego Estates N.Y. (stamp on torso). Comments: the cottage industry dolls of Emma Adams were presented at the Chicago International Exposition ("Columbian Exposition") of 1892 wherein it was awarded the Gold Medal, the first American doll to win this international award. Value Points: rarer petite size of the pivotal American doll, with original finish, antique costume.
