Description
9" (23 cm.) and 10". Each is of padded fabric over wire armature with well-defined shaped and painted details of face and fingers, the lady with light brunette mohair wig arranged in the classic manner of Queen Victoria, wearing her original multi-tiered ruffled gown of sheer coral organza with low bodice, blue silk banner, petticoats, fitted silk slippers with ankle straps, and with "diamond" jewels in hair, and necklace, brooch and bracelet; Albert with brunette hair, moustache and sideburns and wearing red crepe fitted shirt that is elaborately trimmed with beaded mosaics and jewels, gilt epaulets, gilt metallic collar and cuffs, tights, black shoes with silver buckles. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American artist, Dorothy Heizer, from a series of historic queens introduced in 1934, this 1943 example represents Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, in dancing pose, during the early years of her reign. The dolls were inspired by the cover of The Magazine Antiques, 1936. Value Points: outstanding and perfectly preserved artistic work.
