Description
25" (64 cm.) Art-plaster sculpted head, sculpted brown hair drawn to her crown and with arranged curls beneath an attached woven hat with silk scarf, painted facial features, blue painted eyes, closed mouth with contemplative expression, padded armature body, posable arms, posed on original wooden stand labeled with her name and 1869. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Ellen Terry, purchased by J.H. Hoffheimer, 1937 Traphagen School (original cloth label on costume). Comments: designed by Lilli Baitz, portraying the leading lady of the English stage, Dame Ellen Terry (1847-1928) of whom Sarah Bernhardt proclaimed her as "the greatest actress that ever lived". Value Points: wearing coco-brown silk polonaise ensemble with ruffled and fringed trim, brown silk braid, with lacy jabot. With original labeled leather travel case.
