Description
20" (51 cm.) Cloth sculpted head with firmly-pressed and oil painted facial features, short blonde hair in thick impasto-like painting, painted brown eyes with two white eye dots in each eye, thick brown upper eyeliner, short stroke brows, closed mouth, very plump cheeks, stitched-on head to muslin firmly-stuffed torso and stitch-jointed arms and legs, oil-painted lower arms and legs, separate thumbs, stitched fingers, wearing antique cotton striped dress with Bertha collar, knitted stockings, black velvet slippers. Condition: structurally excellent, painted finish is original albeit scuffed on hair and cheeks. Comments: American, attributed to Dorothy Kinghorn Wilson, circa 1910. A nearly identical doll is shown at the Strong Museum. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 77.
