Description
8" (20 cm.) All-cloth doll with firmly-pressed and oil-painted complexion, facial features and impasto-styled blonde hair with tendrils of curls around the forehead, painted dark blue eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, curly black upper lashes, blonde brows, closed mouth, stitched ears, stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Martha Chase, circa 1910, included with the doll is a letter from Thomas Chase, great-grandson of Martha Chase, stating the doll has always been in the possession of the Chase family until 2009 when acquired by the Museum, and that "this doll was made by Martha Jenks Chase and very likely her outfit was also made by Martha J. Chase". Value Points: the most cherished expression on the very rare doll is enhanced further by its fine state of preservation and Chase family provenance.
