Description
30" (76 cm.) Bisque socket head with very plump cheeks, large blue glass paperweight eyes of great depth, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair hand-tied wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 13. Comments: attributed to Joanny, from his prestigious doll store at 202 rue de Rivoli, circa 1882. Value Points: flawless complexion and painting is enhanced by very deep modeling, splendid eyes, on the rarely-found bebe wearing antique mariner costume and cap with gilt lettering L'Espiegle. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 108.
