Description
16" (41 cm.) x 14". The wooden-framed glass-fronted shadowbox with ornate gilt frame and glass front displays a French salon scene of the Empire era, circa 1820, with two paper cut-out ladies in various poses, set dimensionally in the room, along with a wooden toilette table with gilt accents, pair of side tables, three chairs, and various accessories. A script paper label on the reverse reads "Conversation Piece" by Narcissa Thorne. Excellent condition. From the collection of period dioramas created by Narcissa Niblack Thorne, whose works were first shown in the 1939 World's Fair in Chicago, and then donated to the Chicago Art Institute in 1941.
