Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque socket head, small brown glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Germany 550 A 4 M DRGM. Comments: Marseille, circa 1915. Value Points: rarer model with bright-eyed smiling expression, impressed dimples at lip corners, original body in very fine original condition, and wearing original folklore costume of Spreewald in Germany which features a remarkable stiffened head coiffe known as LAPA. The doll was featured in the book, World Colors, Dolls and Dress, by Vilma Hachette and Susan Hedrick and in, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 199.
