Description
28" (71 cm.) Bisque socket head, large deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with well-shaded lips, impressed chin and philtrum dimples, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, lovely antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Paris Bebe 12 (faint red stamp, head) 12 (impressed on head) Paris Bebe Depose (torso with symbol of Eiffel Tower). Comments: Danel & Cie, circa 1890, whose models were aimed at capturing the Jumeau marketplace, and against whom Emile Jumeau won a landmark lawsuit in 1892 which ended the Danel firm; hence, very few dolls to be found today. Value Points: beautiful creamy bisque enhances the wide-eyed gaze, original body and body finish, and wearing rare original leather shoes with Paris Bebe imprint.
