Description
12" (30 cm.) Bisque socket head, intaglio blue eyes with large black pupils, well-defined eye sockets, brushstroked brows, pronounced rounded nose, closed mouth in wide beaming smile with painted teeth and tongue tip, brunette mohair wig, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Dep T.H. Germany 09. Comments: Theodore Hornlein of Sonneberg, this is likely the DRGM that he registered in 1909 as "character doll head", his contribution to the art character reform movement of that year. Value Points: rarely-found character with wonderfully-expressive features. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 214.
