Description
13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head with sculpted red hair in impish style, having modeled topknot and side curls, painted blue side-glancing intaglio eyes with white eye dots, red and black upper eyeliner, short stroke brows, pointy nose, closed mouth with wide beaming smile framed by laughter lines in each cheek, composition and wooden ball-jointed body with side-hip jointing, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Kestner, circa 1915, inspired by the character Moritz from the 19th-century children's books of Wilhelm Busch, and re-popularized in the early 20th-century American comic strip, The Katzenjammer Kids. This Kestner model was also made in an all-bisque variation. Value Points: very rare model of the popular storybook character, few examples of the Kestner model are known with composition body. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 232.
